PENDULUMS - a short overview
PENDULUMS
Pendulums are known for their accuracy as divinatory instruments. They work by picking up on the subtle vibrations of energy that every object, animate or inanimate, gives off. This includes our thoughts, questions, hopes, and wishes. The pendulum acts as a communication device between our conscious and superconscious or intuitive mind.
Using a Pendulum
o Getting Started: A pendulum can be as simple as a gold or silver chain with a crystal pendant or the carved variety in silver, gold or crystal. Let your pendulum ‘get to know you’ by holding it in your hand. Imbue it with your gracious intention and ask for clear and simple guidance. Thank the pendulum for working with you.
o Become familiar with your pendulum: Hold the chain about 10cm up between your thumb and forefinger. You can let out more chain if you like, but keep in mind that the longer the chain, the slower the movement of the pendulum. Allow the crystal to hang until it is still. You may place your elbow on a stable surface to steady your arm.
o Yes or No Answers: The pendulum will move differently for each person.
For some it will swing in circles, others in a backward and forward motion etc. To determine your 'YES' response, ask the pendulum "Show me yes" and note the direction it swings. Similarly, ask "Show me no" to determine your 'NO' response. Ask these 2 simple questions each time you use your pendulum to ensure the responses remain the same (they can change). Remember to thank your pendulum after each interaction.
o Set your space: Ensure the space you are using the pendulum for divination in has been thoroughly cleansed using sage or something similar. After you determine your ‘YES‘ and ‘NO’ responses each time, also ask ‘Are these messages coming from the light?” (If the pendulum indicates ‘NO’, cleanse your pendulum and ask again. If still ‘NO’ put your pendulum back into sage storage until next time. Be sure to ask the question again until you get a ‘YES’
o Practice: The best way to become familiar with your pendulum is through practice. Start with simple questions you know the answers to, such as "Is my name ...?" or “Do I like to eat ….” For quicker responses, try making statements like "It is raining today" or “Today is Saturday” as statements are either true or false.
o Locating Lost Objects: If you've misplaced something important, like your keys, you can use your pendulum to help find it. Draw a rough plan or mud-map of your house and yard, then hold the pendulum over each area while repeating statements. For example, while holding the pendulum over the area on your mud-map represented as the kitchen say "My keys are in the kitchen" and so on, until you find the missing item.
o Making Difficult Choices: Often life leads us down the path of difficult decisions. When this happens, you can use your pendulum to help guide you. Hold the pendulum and ask questions or make statements related to your choices to see which direction it swings.
These are just a few suggestions to get you going, there really are no hard and fast rules for using a pendulum, it is just a matter of doing what ‘feels’ right for you. You can ask questions for yourself or someone else, just make the questions simple. Structure questions so they will only have a YES or NO answer. The pendulum can not speak, unfortunately, so remember to ask exactly what you want to know. For example, if you want to ask “Will I win Lotto?” be sure to ask all of the relevant question ie “Will I win first division lotto in the Saturday night draw?” not just “Will I win lotto”
Remember it is important to keep your pendulum cleansed after each use – I keep mine on a small Amethyst slab. That way it is cleansed and ready to use next time I am ready.
Enjoy! In love and light <3
